In case you've been following my blog for some time now but have still been living under a rock while still participating on the blog, I have some news for you: MuteMath has a new album coming out called "Odd Soul." It drops on October 4th and iTunes has just updated the track listing for it. Here's the songs that will be included on the album:

We've already heard Odd Soul and Blood Pressure, and in the coming days we'll hear track number seven, Allies. I've read that the last track of the regular album, track 13, "In No Time" is an instrument-heavy track, hopefully to the likes of Reset! (Remember our spotlight on the Atari instrument way back in April? The Reset video just linked has an awesome view of the band & crowd members using it!) Also, I've noticed that MuteMath is pretty good at naming their songs with short/brief titles. I like it that way, there's no paragraph to remember if you want to tell a friend about a cool song you heard.

Until next time, friends.

First look: Blood Pressure - new single from MuteMath

MuteMath's newest single to hit iTunes and other music services is "Blood Pressure."

When setting this next to previous single releases, this song features much more emphasis on guitar and drums than vocals and keyboard. MuteMath has proved through their release of the two tracks "Odd Soul" and "Blood Pressure" that they've made a paradigm shift with this new album. And this is me not complaining about it!

As a loyal fan of MuteMath, I'm pretty sure that I'd love just about anything that they send down the tube, but this track and "Odd Soul" are already past the stage of "growing on" me - I'm so ready for the album to drop!

In the next few days, when I get some time really, I'll link the acoustic version of this song and a brief interview with the band about the meaning of the song. It's a cool insight into how "Blood Pressure" came along in the creative process and gives a vantage into the context and past of members of MuteMath.

Stay tuned, friends!

One more great remix: Maybe Bomb's "Daddy Don't Belong" Remix

Odd Soul (Maybe Bomb's "Daddy Don't Belong" Remix) by Maybe Bomb

One of my loyal Twitter followers posted a link to the Maybe Bomb's "Daddy Don't Belong" remix for me to check out. It's nothing like the remixes that were posted on Friday - and that's cool.

What does this mix bring to mind when you're listening to it? For me, it's like I could be listening to MuteMath's Odd Soul in a dark cave or cloud where things seem desperate or far off. The sound is ominous. The first time I listened, I was waiting for the "hit" or "break" to happen - the point in the track where the instrumentals went full throttle and loud, but as you listen, you'll notice that doesn't happen. The strange beeping throughout the track adds to the ominous feeling.

I love it! But I'm also the MuteMath fan :) What do you think?
